Releases New E.P 'Songs With Friends'

Live Shows - October / November 2026

Ed Cosens announces his 5th single ‘I Need Your Love So Bad’ completing his collection of covers EP ‘Songs With Friends’.

Songs With Friends (EP)

Blaggers Records

The “Songs With Friends” EP brings together a period of Ed’s musical life where he has reached out beyond his old familiar settings of having been in an indie band and pushed himself to find more from music and develop beyond the confines of the traditional lanes of the indie world.

“The idea was to really go outside of my comfort zone and find like minded people who share the same passion for simply writing great songs and music. None of this A.I led, one size fits all thing that seems to be sadly becoming the norm.”

The EP is a collaborative endeavour born out of Ed‘s travels around the world writing songs, meeting fellow Artists and celebrating some of his favourite songs. It began life as a small Instagram series where Ed would record a short snippet of a cover version with whoever he was writing with that day, early versions included collaborations with James Walsh and Daisy Chute both of whom appear on the final EP which includes songs by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Featuring alongside Ed, James Walsh and Daisy Chute are Grammy award-winning Beth Nielsen Chapman, Young blues guitarist of the year Toby Lee, and renowned folk singer songwriter Jean Rohe.

Of the EP Ed said “I’ve been really lucky to be able to, and indeed asked, to travel around the world to write and work with some incredible songwriters and performers. Being able to explore some of my favourite songs and delve deeper into their creation is both highly rewarding and massively educational, any chance to learn songwriting craft from one of the greats is amazing!” “Getting to work with other Artists in the calibre of Beth (Nielsen Chapman) and everyone involved, it’s just incredible and a real honour.”

The EP was recorded live over two days at Crystal Ship Studios in Sheffield with fellow musicians Adam Crofts and David Glover with additional sessions in Nashville, London and New York. Engineered and mixed by Dave Sanderson and mastered by Sam Proctor at Lismore mastering.

The song with Friends EP is a precursor to the next chapter of Ed’s career with another EP due late 2026 and a brand new long playing album around the corner.

Story Behind ‘I Need Your Love So Bad’:

“I met Toby at a songwriting camp in Texas a couple of years ago. He had already been named young blues guitarist of the year twice and he was still only 19! He is just an incredible guitar player, the kind that makes you look at yourself and wish you’d practiced more!”

“Once I started to work on the EP, I immediately thought of Toby and doing a song with him, and getting him to play and indeed emulate one of my guitar heroes, Peter Green, was incredible. Toby did such an amazing job on “I Need Your Love So Bad”, it took what was a nice, but ultimately fairly safe backing track, and propelled it into another stratosphere! I’m so happy Toby is doing so well now, he really deserves it and I can’t wait to see what he does in the coming years! He’ll be a household name soon for sure.”
