It’s that time again, when our man on the ground Desh Kapur Editor/Photographer All Music Magazine UK spotlights a bands or artists he thinks are going to have a big 2025 bands and artists we think you should check out to stay ahead of the curve

So welcome to SOAPBOX

Already gaining attention for their live shows and even louder political views, Glasgow's SOAPBOX are a band on the up!

SOAPBOX have graced the cover of Spotify's The Punk List amongst being included in other playlists such as New Music Friday, All New Punk, and Hot New Bands. Pulling from influences like The Damned to Soft Play, Amyl and the Sniffers and Viagra Boys, the band say about their music, “we all have a severe praise kink so as long as people keep listening, we’re happy.”

Refusing to stray from their political stance, the band promoted their last EP with posters featuring their lyrics about Nazis and BDSM around Glasgow. Not even a week later, the posters were hastily removed due to a volume of complaints from Glasgow City Council. The band responded, “Glasgow City Council don’t believe in punching Nazis apparently” and urged fans to seek out any remaining posters.

In true SOAPBOX fashion, the band have faced more controversy surrounding a run of posters they plastered over Glasgow which featured their contentious lyrics and political support from politician Jeremy Corbyn. Previously, the band received an unsolicited endorsement from Alt-right ring-leader Gavin McInnes which was covered in The Times.

They’ve just released new single "Private Public Transport"

All Music Magazine UK caught up with the band

AM - What first got you into music? or Who inspired you to make music?

SB - I used to go to a record shop called FOPP a lot with my dad, I just liked looking at all the album art. I bought ‘Lungs’ by Florence + The Machine because it looked cool but that’s one of my favourite albums ever made.

AM - How would you describe the music that you typically create?.

SB - Derivative

AM - What is your creative process like?

SB - cans and an argument with my dad

AM - If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

SB - We’re playing a few of the same festivals as Soft Play this summer, it would be great to open for them. I think their crowd would get a good kick out of us.

AM - What is one message you would give to your fans?

SB - We owe every single one of yous a pint because we wouldn’t be doing any of this without you lot turning up and supporting us.

AM - What is the most useless talent you have?

SB - I’m unbelievably good at convincing my friends to come out drinking when they shouldn’t. Proper motivational speeches.

AM - Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

SB - A message to you Rudy by The Specials. My flatmate hates it

AM - What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

SB - Probably the same job I do right now but I would have more money.

AM - Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

SB - We were very lucky to play the final night of an old Glasgow venue called the Priory which was amazing, getting to wave off a Glasgow music institution was very special. The 100 Club in London was incredible as well just the amount of history that’s been through that place is amazing. One of the old doormen there took us a walk round the venue showing us pictures of all these music icons who had also played there.

AM - What is your favourite song to perform?

SB - We have a new one off the next EP called Good Guys which has been really fun, did it live for the first time last week and it went down well.

AM - Which famous musicians do you admire?

SB - Amy Taylor from Amyl and The Sniffers, she’s the coolest person in music.

AM - What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

SB - We tried to steal a forklift in Newcastle they didn’t find that very funny.

AM - What is the best advice you’ve been given?

SB - Being the worst musician in the room is the quickest way to learn even if it’s uncomfortable.

AM - What’s next for you?

SB - We have an EP called LOCK IN coming out on April 25th, right now though I am going to go back to work.
