Australian alternative indie group Sesame Girl are today sharing new single ‘Wings of a Butterfly’. This latest offering from their dream world is a delicate musing on love that also about not being afraid to ask for what you deserve. 'Wings of a Butterfly' follows the release of their glittering recent single ‘Superstar’, which was debuted on triple j’s Home and Hosed and added to rotation.
“Wings of a Butterfly is about asking for proof instead of promises. Someone can say that they love you and they’re not leaving, but that’s not really enough. I feel like the lyrics ‘I want you to prove you’re here forever’ sum up the sentiment of wanting reassurance through something tangible,” said vocalist Heather Duncan.
“Wings of a Butterfly was the first song we wrote from (almost) scratch in the studio with our producer Simon Lam. We had a little voice memo of the riff and built it up from there, and it ended up being our favourite riff on the record.”
Their previous single ‘Superstar’ was featured in Clash Magazine (UK), DIY (UK), Rough Trade (UK), Wanderer Magazine, The Underground Stage, Reverie, received glowing reviews from triple j hosts, added to triple j Unearthed radio, FBi Radio, SYN FM, 4ZZZ, Radio Monash, and the music video was rage’s Wild Card Feature Video of the Week.
‘Wings of a Butterfly’ is the band’s latest single with Grammy award winning producer Simon Lam (Charli XCX, The Temper Trap, Allday, Armlock). Building on the previously released “Back to Texas’ and 'Superstar', Sesame Girl reveal more of the magic they’ve found by reinventing themselves.
Sesame Girl is an Australian alternative indie band originally formed in Ngunnawal Country / Canberra. The band released their debut EP Lucky Charm in 2022, leading the project to quickly gain attention for its mix of “textured, immediately recognisable vocals”, heartfelt lyrics, pop sensibilities and 90s inspired, guitar-driven riffs.
Sesame Girl has toured with acts such as MAY-A, Vacations, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Belair Lip Bombs and British India, and supported Spacey Jane, Grinspoon, You Am I and Spiderbait alongside playing festivals such as Spilt Milk and Yours and Owls.
