Club Academy Manchester – 6th August 2026
WORDS AND IMAGES TONI SLATER

There are few places in Manchester better suited to the brutal, claustrophobic intensity of hardcore than Club Academy. Low ceilings, limited square footage and a crowd packed tight against the stage create an atmosphere that can transform an already explosive band into something genuinely volatile. The venue gives a dark, atmospheric feel that is sets the tone well for the night ahead.
Before the Brooklyn legends take the stage, Manchester gets an uncompromising triple dose of hardcore from Cut throat, Striking 13 and Sworn Enemy. By the time the headliners arrive, the room feels primed for detonation.
Opening the night, Cut Throat waste no time establishing the tone. Their presence on the bill provides the first shot of adrenaline, setting the wheels in motion for what will become an increasingly intense evening.
If Cut Throat light the initial spark, Striking 13 turn up the heat.Unflinching and urgent, they attack their set with the feral energy of a band operating firmly within the core tenets of the genre. The cramped confines of Club Academy work entirely in their favour. Far from feeling like a filler opening slot, their performance lands like the first wave of an escalating assault, drawing kinetic energy from the crowd as the momentum builds. Everyone in the room understands precisely what kind of night this is going to be.
If Striking 13 light the fuse, Sworn Enemy throw it straight into a keg of petrol.
The New York hardcore veterans bring seasoned weight to the stage, delivering a set that is brutally physical without surrendering its groove. A metallic edge gives their sound extra crunch, while the hardcore foundation keeps everything moving at a relentless pace. The crowd response shifts into overdrive. Bodies collide, fists pierce the air, and the line between audience and stage vanishes entirely. Sworn Enemy don't simply warm the room up—they make a lethal argument for headlining it themselves.
Then comes the main event. Following their reunion in 2022, the hardcore band from New York are in the middle of a tour promoting their most recent album “Divided We Fall” which is their 10th Studio offering.
From the moment Biohazard hit the stage, it is immediately clear this is no nostalgia cash-in. Reunited with their classic original line-up, the band’s signature blend of hardcore, metal and hip-hop-inflected groove sounds as vicious as it did in 1994.
There is something brilliantly old-school about witnessing them in a venue this intimate. Biohazard's music was forged for physical contact—for moving bodies, barked-back vocals and total chaos. Club Academy proves to be the ultimate crucible.
The riffs land with seismic weight, the rhythm section drives the pit, and the dual vocals retain their trademark confrontational edge. There is no glossy polish and no softened edges. Biohazard sound like a band who still believe a live show should feel like a survival test.
Old songs and newer recordings including the already anthemic “Fuck the System” went down a storm. The bass reverberated all around the room and upped the energy to another level. The crowd matches every ounce of aggression. The energy grows increasingly ferocious, with the band's nineties anthems triggering the biggest eruptions of the night. A genuine generational cross-section fills the room: old-school devotees who have waited years for this reunion alongside younger fans discovering first-hand why Biohazard became such a cornerstone of the crossover movement.
That mix is perhaps the night's most satisfying takeaway.
Decades after their breakthrough, Biohazard don't sound like a museum piece. Their blueprint endures because the core ingredients—heavy riffs, street-level aggression, infectious bounce and socially aware lyrics—remain timelessly effective. Crucially, the band still look like they are having the time of their lives, and they gave the crowd the same.
Club Academy ends up sweaty, cramped and deafening—exactly how a proper hardcore show should be. By the time the final feedback fades, the room looks and feels like a battleground.
Thirty years on, the message remains clear: Biohazard aren't simply revisiting their legacy—they're still living it.
