English Teacher, girli & Katy J Pearson
TO PERFORM IN SUPPORT OF
WAR CHILD UK’S ‘DAY OF THE GIRL’ CAMPAIGN
English Teacher, girli, and Katy J Pearson are all set to perform intimate live shows in venues across the country in support of War Child - the specialist charity working to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children living in war zones globally.
Fearless alt-pop artist girli will perform on Thursday 9th October at London’s Oslo. Blending sharp social commentary with bold, DIY-inspired pop production, girli has built a devoted following, carving out a space as one of the most outspoken and innovative voices in modern pop. Her unapologetic lyrics and infectious hooks challenge norms around identity, sexuality, and mental health.
girli said: “Girls are the group most affected by war worldwide so I’m really excited to be raising money with War Child for Day of the Girl"
Last year’s Mercury Prize winners English Teacher will perform on Friday 10th October at Liverpool’s Hangar 34. English Teacher is one of the UK’s most exciting new indie bands. They’ve won critical acclaim and a growing national following for their intelligent, genre-bending take on modern guitar music.
Closing out Day of the Girl in style, English indie pop musician, Katy J Pearson will perform on Sunday 12th October at London’s iconic The 100 Club. Fusing folk, pop, and country influences into heartfelt, widescreen soundscapes, Katy’s soaring vocals and rich storytelling has built her a reputation as one of the UK’s most distinctive and captivating artists.
Katy J Pearson said: “I will be playing a gig at The 100 Club on the 12th of October with two of my favourite artists supporting, Sarah Meth & Jimmy Means Smut. This gig will be raising money to provide vital support to women in war zones. Thank you to War Child for having me!”
The Day of the Girl concerts are more than just performances; they are a lifeline for girls and women living through war. Right now, 612 million women and girls worldwide are living in conflict zones. A staggering 50% increase on this same number just 10 years ago.
Gender inequality escalates to alarming levels in areas affected by crisis. Those assigned female at birth suffer 95% of all sexual violence and are 2.5 times more likely to be out of school. Without menstrual supplies and clean spaces, women and girls face serious health risks and suffer a loss of dignity.
Since 2021, Day of the Girl has raised over £250K for War Child, with some of the UK’s most exciting artists, including Griff, Lola Young, Olivia Dean and Bree Runway, lending their voices to support the charity’s work protecting, educating, and advocating for the rights of girls and women amidst the turmoil of war.
By taking part, fans and supporters will be supporting War Child’s work: Providing specialist mental health support; creating safe spaces to learn and play; promoting girls’ and women’s rights in communities; ensuring access to health care and legal support; providing job training and financial aid, and more to some of the most vulnerable women and girls around the world.
Clare Sanders-Wright, Live Music Lead at War Child said: “Day of the Girl is back again, and we’re so grateful to the incredible artists and their fabulous teams for donating their time and talents to perform this year. We couldn't do this without them. Their support not only makes these shows unforgettable for music lovers, but helps us raise much-needed funds and awareness for girls living with and processing the impact of conflicts around the world. Together, we’re celebrating their strength while making a meaningful impact on children's lives, helping them to live up to their full potential, despite the trauma they've been forced to endure.”
Communion ONE is generously acting as promoter partner and DHL has kindly sponsored the event.
Elliott Santon, Head of Global Partnerships at DHL Express said; “We are proud to support War Child’s Day of the Girl, a powerful campaign that champions the rights, voices, and potential of girls affected by conflict. It reflects our ongoing commitment to War Child and aligns closely with our purpose: ‘Connecting People, Improving Lives.’ Through our global network and expertise in humanitarian aid, we help create opportunities for girls around the world to thrive. Supporting Day of the Girl is one more way we stand with War Child to ensure every girl has the chance to grow up safe, empowered, and heard.”
