FISCHERSPOONER ARE BACK!

DEMON RECORDS PARTNER WITH NEW YORK ART POP

TRAILBLAZERS FOR SERIES OF SPECIAL RELEASES

HOT PINK LP EDITION OF DUO’S SEMINAL ‘#1’ ALBUM

WILL BE RELEASED FOR RSD BLACK FRIDAY 2026

Demon Records have today announced they are to partner with pioneering New York art pop duo Fischerspooner on a new series of very special reissues, beginning with a hot pink vinyl LP edition of the album that started it all: #1.

#1 includes "Emerge,” one of the most important synth tracks of the new millennium, with 28 million streams on Spotify alone, but there's much more here: a stunningly beautiful Wire cover version, glitchy techno, ambient detours, wit, sensuality, and a fixation on identity and image that reads very differently in the social media age.

#1 was reviewed in the Village Voice as a conceptual artwork before it was reviewed anywhere as pop, subsequently being regarded as one of the defining records of its era.

Unavailable on vinyl since the turn of the century, original copies of the duo’s 2001 debut album now change hands for serious money.

This new hot pink vinyl LP edition of #1 will be released on 27th November 2026 for this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday and exclusively available from participating stores. A list of participating Record Store Day UK outlets is available here, whilst the appropriate Record Store Day US store locator is here.

Fischerspooner, classically-trained musician Warren Fischer and performance artist Casey Spooner, started life in 1998 as a New York art project with a self-published artist statement/manifesto, a cast of dancers, costumes, special effects and a plan to see just how far spectacle and artifice could go.

“Fischerspooner started in 1998 as an experiment incorporating music, image, and performance to explore what entertainment was and could be,” explains Warren. “Sincere and absurd, I'm excited #1 is coming back on vinyl with Demon, so people can hear it again on its own terms, twenty-five years later.”

“It’s exciting that all our creative work and history is being carefully preserved,” adds Casey. “To have all these ideas gathered in one place and properly archived is a huge gift. There’s so much more that hasn’t been seen and amazing stories yet to be told.”

Demon Music Group are also pleased to reveal today that a comprehensive box-set is planned as part of their celebration of Fischerspooner’s catalogue, scheduled for release in spring 2027.

Adrian Sear (Commercial Director – Demon Music Group) says of the new partnership; “As one of the most creative and groundbreaking artists of the noughties, it was my privilege to be able to sign the Fischerspooner catalogue to the Demon family. Working together with Casey and Warren, Demon will enhance their profile and their reputation for their fans and the new generation of followers to come.“

Ben Stanley (Head of Product, Marketing & Licensing - Demon Music Group) adds; “We are really excited to welcome Fischerspooner to the Demon roster. We already have some fantastic catalogue initiatives planned over the next few years, and we look forward to working closely with Casey and Warren.”

Famously remixing artists such as Kylie Minogue and The Killers, Fischerspooner would release four albums of trailblazing electronic music across their two decade career via labels as diverse as International Deejay Gigolos, Ministry Of Sound, Capitol Records, Serotonin, Ultra and Kitsuné. The New York duo’s fourth (and final) 2018 album Sir was co-written and executive-produced by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe.

As an electronic pioneer and queer icon, Casey Spooner has famously (and consistently) pushed beyond the traditional limits of mainstream pop, hijacking it as a creative vehicle to liberate and deconstruct the cis-male form. Through a blend of hyper-masculine imagery, theatrical performance art and raw vulnerability, he transforms conventional pop spaces into radical environments for queer liberation.

With a new generation of exciting pop artists such as Lady Gaga, Caroline Polachek, Slayyyter and Snow Strippers citing them as a major influence, the return of Fischerspooner with their relentless boundary pushing artistic aesthetic feels particularly apt.
