EU tour dates with Rocket and Girl Scout
Confirmed for SXSW this March
Honey I’m Home are today sharing new single ‘Pretty', a thrilling reintroduction to their own buoyant, head-in-the-clouds sonics. Merging 90’s alternative rock with shoegaze, lo-fi indie and emo, the band's sound is one of instinctual, but inventive twists and turns, seamlessly shifting from intimate moments to explosive climaxes, blending layered guitars with deeply personal lyrics.
Honey I'm Home – completed by Thom Schotanus, Sofie Ooteman, Jasper Meurs, Hugo de Groot and Evelien Keesmaat – release 'Pretty' having recently hit stages at Reeperbahn and Left of the Dial festivals, and completed a full European tour in support of Third Man Records' own Hotline TNT. Heading into the spring, Honey I'm Home will tour with the much-hyped LA band Rocket ahead of a first appearance at SXSW in Austin, and more tour dates with Swedish rockers Girl Scout. Find full details below.
With new single 'Pretty', the band explores the idea of hiding behind your appearance as a defence mechanism, and the emptiness it ultimately leads to. 'Pretty' doesn't decry vanity, but there's a hollowness that Honey I'm Home shine a light on, and through its sunny distortion and sticky melodies it looks at obsession and compulsion ("Before you try to sleep / Just one thing going through your mind / At least I'm pretty") and searches for answers ("Do you hate the world? / Or do you like being hateful too?").
Vocalist and guitarist Thom Schotanus explains:
"'Pretty' is about people who have learned to suppress negative emotions by fully focusing on their appearance. The track explores depressive feelings that are hidden behind the search for attention—not because these people are shallow themselves, but because using looks is something that works. After all, people apparently do judge a book by its cover.
The song looks at emptiness and cynicism, and at how being attractive can sometimes become the only thing left of someone’s personality. Eventually, people start to believe in that as a last form of support: “at least I am pretty.”
