Game changing DJ and producer, Introspekt, releases her new single The Transmission and announces her debut album Moving The Center set for release June 20th via Tempa.
Introspekt is an LA-born, NY-based DJ and producer who has been instrumental in revolutionizing the UK garage and bass music scenes for the past few years. Rising to prominence with her unique blend of garage, dubstep, club music, and sensual vocal samples weaved together through a Black transsexual lesbian lens, she has created a sound that resonates globally.
New single The Transmission is a beautiful instrumental release that sees Introspekt at her best as she uniquely combines dark dubstep basslines with references to vogue ballroom motifs - bringing forward the queer undercurrent that is strewn throughout her music.
Introspekt’s hotly anticipated debut album Moving The Center comes nearly a year after the release of her latest collaborative EP Tectónica. Set to be released on June 20th, Moving The Center sees Introspekt pay homage to dubstep’s point of genesis in South London while simultaneously shifting the center of focus from a singular point of origin, to a more global narrative of bass and vibration. The album blends Dubstep with contrasting genres like garage and east coast club music, creating the perfect feminine blend of these historically masculine genres. The album merges rhythms and ideas from the Black diaspora across the Atlantic, crafting a sonic world where past, present and future are parallel and immersed in an early millennium type dubstep soundscape.
Speaking about the album, Introspekt says, “‘Moving The Center’ embodies an alternate perspective to that which has been dominant in dance music, particularly so-called ‘bass music’. The narrative it presents is one which throws a wrench in the seemingly common perception of Dubstep as a masculinist sensibility. ‘Moving The Center’ pushes a feminine physicality to the front of the bassbins. Femmes to the front!”
Introspekt began her career at 16 in LA and before she was kicked out of clubs for being underage she was performing alongside artists like Joe Nice in Hollywood clubs like ‘King King’ and ‘Jewel’s Catch One’. Introspekt’s music has evolved in recent years as she’s connecting with different communities - other trans folk and lesbians, artists and audiences - but has stayed central to her as her career has progressed, continuously reminding us that her musical mission is about bringing up everyone around her, whoever they are. In recent years, Introspekt has garnered attention from a wide range of audiences, including publications such as Mixmag, Wonderland, Clash and DJ MAG. Moving the Center is the first full length Album on Tempa since Horsepower Production's 'Crooks, Crime & Corruption' in 2016 and joins other seminal debut albums such as Benga's Diary of an Afro Warrior and Skream's self-titled album.
Over the past couple of years Introspekt has been performing at venues across the US, Europe and UK including Fabric, Glastonbury and Dekmantel. This year she will be performing at DGTL Amsterdam, Waterworks Festival in London’s Gunnersbury Park and more to be announced.
