Blurring the line between digital fantasy and pop reality, “Cyberspace” sees SOPHIE GREY. expand her self-described “Retro Electro” universe into a fully realised sonic and visual experience. Built on layered synth textures, propulsive rhythms and dreamlike melodic hooks, the track captures the sensation of drifting through a hyper-stylised digital world where memory and machine collide. The release is accompanied by a striking new music video, arriving alongside the single on 8th May, which brings her futuristic aesthetic into sharp focus through bold performance, surreal imagery and immersive world-building. “Cyberspace” marks the beginning of a new creative chapter, ahead of a packed summer of international live dates. SOPHIE GREY. will appear at Detroit Pride Festival in June, followed by US performances supporting AJR in Colorado Springs and Bend, before returning to the UK for major shows including Manchester Pride Festival and a London performance at Crystal Palace Bowl, supporting Grace Jones, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Soul II Soul. She will also perform at the Houston Arcade Expo in Texas later this year, further cementing her reputation as a dynamic and visually driven live artist in the electronic pop space.
SOPHIE GREY. writes, arranges, performs and produces her own music, a futuristic amalgam of electro-driven rhythms and addictive synth-pop melodies. A classically-trained pianist and accomplished keyboardist, she began piano studies at the age of four and was mentored by singer/songwriter/pianist Patrice Rushen (“Forget Me Nots”). Her original productions, which blend live instrumentation with sparkling electronic sound design, are grounded in a deep commitment to songwriting craft, and she describes her sound as “Retro Electro.”
Her visual world is an essential part of her artistry, with performances often featuring original, theatrical costumes and narrative-driven staging. On stage, SOPHIE frequently interacts with fictional characters such as “File Collins,” her robot companion, extending her world-building beyond music into performance art.
Live, SOPHIE has toured as an opening act for Sting, Alison Moyet, Shaggy, and Marianas Trench. During a recent London performance, Trevor Horn of The Buggles joined her on stage for a duet of her reinterpretation of “Video Killed the Radio Star,” prompting the Daily Mirror to note that her version “blended the upcoming star's ‘Retro Electro’ sound with the song’s timeless new-wave spirit.”
