IMAGES BEN WHITEHURST

There comes a point in every pop group's existence when nostalgia becomes either a museum piece or a full-blown act of resurrection. Take That, striding onto the stage at Manchester's Etihad Stadium, chose the latter. What unfolded wasn't some polite trip down memory lane; it was a euphoric, lights-blazing celebration of pop's strange ability to soundtrack entire lifetimes. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald commanded the vast arena with the confidence of men who have long since stopped chasing relevance because, somewhere along the way, they simply became part of the cultural furniture. Yet there was nothing static about this performance. Captured here by photographer Ben Whitehurst for All Music Magazine UK, these images bottle a night where thousands surrendered to melody, memory and the sheer joyous excess that only a truly colossal pop show can deliver.
