Taylor Bleu has shared brand new track ‘The Night’, out now on Polydor Label Group. The South London artist recently announced details of his debut EP, Crayon Scars, set for release on September 25th: featuring the stunning first single ‘Mad House’, ‘City of Angels’ and ‘This Staircase’, here is a remarkable introduction to a standout new talent.
With just one sold-out show to his name at London’s Lower Third, Taylor Bleu has also been chosen by Sam Smith to open for them on their upcoming UK headline tour (London Coliseum, September 15th). As part of the residency, BBC Introducing and Sam joined forces to provide a platform for emerging talent, with the 10 hand-picked artists drawing thousands of submissions from across the UK.
Even under cover of darkness, ‘The Night’ summons the feeling of hope - its soulful groove and uplifting arrangements recognising the power and even the beauty in leaving a situation behind. ‘The Night’ appears as a turning point in Crayon Scars, with Taylor Bleu leaving space for the possibility of closure, and brighter days ahead.
Crayon Scars chronicles Taylor Bleu’s coming-of-age in cathartic, and deeply considered, style. He was born and raised in South London, growing up surrounded by challenges that meant music, when it came, was a place of escapism. Having been discovered singing freestyles on Instagram, few contemporary acts have spent years actively (but thankfully, unsuccessfully) trying to avoid becoming an artist.
In 2026, Taylor Bleu’s mission is to give voice to those unheard. The project’s first single, ‘Mad House’, paired alt-R&B realism with an angry defence of mental health, a 999-call which captures the complex struggles - but also the endurance of spirit - for those society leaves behind. ‘City of Angels’, meanwhile, interrogates faith and compassion, its cinematic hip-hop soundscape reaching an emotional climax on stunning ballad, ‘This Staircase’: a timeless love song, just not as you know it (the track is in fact devoted to the location where Taylor would spend much of his childhood singing and self-soothing). Diaristic in detail but deeply universal in appeal, Crayon Scars channels the restless individuality of acts like Sampha, James Blake and Frank Ocean, with an inner-city, scrapbook-esque aesthetic that warps memory, nostalgia and fantasy. The lasting impression throughout Taylor Bleu’s foundational music is light, rather than darkness - because it exists, and it is his.
