Glaswegian twin-sibling duo Cloth—Rachael and Paul Swinton—return with their third studio album, Pink Silence, released on April 25, 2025, via Rock Action Records. Building upon the acclaim of their 2023 album Secret Measure, which was shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award, Pink Silence marks a bold evolution in their sound.
Produced by Ali Chant (known for his work with Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, and Yard Act), the album embraces a more expansive and cinematic approach. Collaborations with esteemed artists like Owen Pallett, Portishead’s Adrian Utley, and Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite enrich the album's texture, adding layers of strings, synths, and atmospheric guitar work.
Thematically, Pink Silence delves into the complexities of relationships, heartbreak, loss, and self-acceptance. The title itself evokes the ethereal light of early morning or late evening, symbolizing both serenity and foreboding—a duality reflected throughout the album.
Tracks like "Polaroid" showcase the duo's ability to blend their signature hushed vocals with more robust instrumentation, creating a sound that is both intimate and expansive. "I Don't Think So" features a thick, gooey riff courtesy of Adrian Utley, adding depth to the song's chorus.
