Marisa and the Moths – Live in Studio 3, Abbey Road
In an age where so much music is polished to perfection, Live in Studio 3, Abbey Road by Marisa and the Moths feels like a rare, raw gem. Recorded live on 6 November 2022 in the iconic Studio 3 at Abbey Road and released on 4th July 2025, this album captures the band at their most vulnerable and powerful. Funded entirely by fans through a crowdfunding campaign that doubled its initial goal in under a day, it stands as both a celebration of community and a tribute to late fan Martin Hopkins, to whom the album is dedicated.
Right from the opening moments of “Needy,” you’re drawn in by the candidness of the performance. A casual “take one” from the band precedes an explosion of live energy that never lets up. There’s no artifice here—just a group of musicians playing with urgency and heart. Marisa’s vocals are nothing short of commanding. She slips seamlessly from breathy intimacy to full-throated grunge growls, evoking comparisons to Amy Lee, Lzzy Hale, and Christina Aguilera in both power and control. The band around her plays with cohesion and ferocity, especially impressive given the high-stakes setting of Abbey Road.
Each track has its moment to shine. “Skin” is a tension-laden standout, thick with guitar fuzz and anchored by a tight rhythm section. “Who Are You Waiting For?” builds slowly, tugging at emotional threads until it bursts into an unforgettable chorus. “SAD” veers into sludgy territory but remains melodic, while “Get It Off My Chest” pulses with catharsis and bold confidence. “Choke” is a blast of aggression and spiraling energy, and “Pedestal” brings a darker, moodier texture. The final track, “Borderline,” wraps it all with a sense of release, a fitting close to an emotionally charged set.
What makes the album truly special isn’t just the musical execution—it’s the connection you feel throughout. There’s banter, laughter, and that undeniable chemistry that comes from a band trusting one another in real time. The production lets the space of Abbey Road breathe around them, enhancing rather than sterilizing the live sound. It’s not just a live album—it’s a document of a band stepping into their moment. This is one of the band’s best offerings yet—a moment in time captured with clarity, emotion, and force.
If you’re into bands like Evanescence, Halestorm, Foo Fighters, In This Moment, or enjoy the emotional depth and power of artists like Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale, this album should go straight to the top of your playlist. Live in Studio 3, Abbey Road is more than a live recording—it's a full-bodied experience
