New York-based singer-songwriter meg elsier returns with her sensational new single, ‘Meaning Of Life’, out now via Bright Antenna Records. It is the first new music we have heard from meg since her acclaimed 2024 debut album, spittake, which received a deluxe version of the album in July 2025 that included additional tracks. Accompanying the single release is a video visualiser, which is available to watch below.
On ‘Meaning Of Life’, meg elsier epitomises indie-rock with alt-pop overtones, combining them with modern Americana influences. Throughout the track, the vocals and guitars harmonise flawlessly. “Have you ever been such an empath that when your friend is struggling you decide to crawl in that hole and make it a “we” thing? In a way that is both sweet and selfish? ‘Meaning Of Life’ is giving depression company. It’s being fucking tired.
It’s self-sabotage-procastination. It’s not being able to feel anything but doing it vicariously through people. Making their pain and emotions mine. One again selfish. This is a pretty goddam selfish song.
It’s having a completely normal and sweet time but poisoning it with these massive nihilistic thoughts.
Is ‘Meaning Of Life’ about how vapid the day is? How nothing has meaning? Maybe it’s less about that and more about how hard it is to find meaning when there’s no reason to it”
