Extreme + Terrorvision – Halifax Gets Rocked at Piece Hall
If there was ever a venue built to host a night of rock greatness, it’s Halifax’s historic Piece Hall—and last night it played the perfect host to two titans of different eras: Yorkshire’s own Terrorvision, and Boston’s funk-metal masters Extreme. From local pride to world-class shredding, it was a night full of energy, joy, and one particularly spine-tingling singalong that brought the house down.
Terrorvision – Hometown Heroes, Still Loud and Proud
You could feel the love before Terrorvision even hit the stage. With a home crowd cheering them on from the first note, they launched into a riotous, hit-packed set that proved they’ve still got the edge and the humour that made them Brit-rock favourites in the ’90s.
“Tequila” and “Oblivion” got the party properly started, but it was Tony Wright’s interaction with the crowd—equal parts cheeky banter and pure gratitude—that made it feel special.
Extreme – Still Funky, Still Furious, Still Flawless
Then came Extreme—and the shift in energy was electric. They launched in with full confidence, wasting no time proving why they’ve become a must-see live act again after decades in the game.
Nuno Bettencourt was, simply put, jaw-dropping. Every solo, every fill, every little flick of his fingers drew roars from the crowd. His playing is more than technical—it’s joyful. And Gary Cherone, a whirlwind of charisma, moved like a frontman with something to prove—and proved it ten times over.
The band cheekily teased snippets of Queen throughout the night—an intro of “Fat Bottomed Girls” and a brief burst of “We Will Rock You” were met with grins and big crowd participation. It was a tasteful tribute, and honestly? They earned the right. Like Queen, Extreme blur genre lines, fuse skill with showmanship, and know how to entertain.
A Moment for the Books: “More Than Words” Midway through the set, the lights softened. Nuno stepped forward, acoustic in hand. Then… those chords.
The crowd went silent—then sang every word of “More Than Words” like it was a sacred ritual. Thousands of voices rose into the open air, wrapped in the glow of one of the most iconic venues in the country. It wasn’t overdone. It wasn’t forced. It was a real moment. People cried. People smiled. Phones were raised but not in a way that distracted. It was, hands down, the emotional peak of the night.
They’re Not Done Yet, Newer tracks like “Rise” hit with surprising power—tight, aggressive, and modern, but still undeniably Extreme. They proved that this is a band still moving forward, still challenging themselves and their fans.
From local heroes bringing pure Northern joy to a band still capable of reinventing what a rock show can be, this was a night to remember. Between the Queen tributes, the emotional weight of “More Than Words,” and the unstoppable force of Nuno Bettencourt’s guitar, Extreme didn’t just play a show—they left a mark.
Piece Hall was built for nights like this.
