DEBUT ALBUM ‘VICTIM OF A CASUAL THING’ SHOOTS STRAIGHT

TO #1 ON THE OFFICIAL INDEPENDENT ALBUMS CHART

THE BAND ALSO MAKE A #19 BREAKTHROUGH ON THE OFFICIAL ALBUMS CHART

They’ve done it! Birmingham’s new indie-rock heroes The Clause have catapulted straight to #1 on the Official Independent Albums Chart with their debut album ‘Victim of a Casual Thing’. What’s more, they’ve also crashed in at #19 on the UK Official Albums Chart - a breakthrough that’s all the more remarkable given that they’ve achieved all of this entirely independently.

In a week that they have described as “the best of our lives,” The Clause had fulfilled a life-long ambition simply by releasing the album. What happened next was bigger than they had hoped - the album infiltrated the midweeks at #8 as they outsold Sabrina Carpenter and their record store tour has been greeted with sell-out crowds and big emotions. And now they’re at #1 on the Official Independent Albums Chart, look at the level of artists they stand alongside - recent weeks have seen the likes of Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., Pulp, CMAT, Richard Ashcroft and Sam Ryder all top the chart.

Vocalist/guitarist Pearce Macca says, “We started this band when we were kids fresh out of school and all we’ve dreamt about since that moment was one day releasing a debut album. Today, we’ve woken up with a UK Top 20 and a UK #1 independent album. We released this record completely independently, with no label and no big management team; just us, and all of you who went out and bought it. From where we started, to have been sat at #8 in the midweek charts is absolutely mental. So to anyone sitting at home thinking about picking up a guitar, do it. Anything can happen.”

As Pearce says, The Clause’s overnight success is the peak of more than a decade’s work. Together with bandmates and old school friends Liam Deakin (guitar), Jonny Fyffe (bass) and Niall Fennell (drums), they’ve battled the odds, overcome setbacks and defied anyone who said it couldn’t be done. Now imagine the possibilities that await when it’s time to turn their attention to their second album…

In the shorter term however, The Clause are back on the road next month. Their upcoming UK headline tour culminates with their biggest headline show to date with a homecoming at the 3000-capacity Birmingham O2 Academy - limited tickets for the tour are available HERE.
