On a charged full-moon night, The Courettes stormed the Hebden Bridge Trades Club with a performance that was nothing short of electrifying. This Danish-Brazilian duo—Flávia Couri on guitar and vocals and Martin Couri on drums—delivered a colossal sound that belied their two-piece setup, bursting with the untamed energy of the White Stripes, while Flávia fires off her guitar like a machine gun, a nod to Lemmy’s Motörhead style.
The night kicked off with support band The Lotts, a garage punk outfit whose set was a whirlwind of energy, loud, fast, and brimming with unapologetic punk vibe and angst. With pulsing drums, wild roars from singer Henry Bucanan, and relentless riffs, their confident performance left the crowd raring to go and nicely warmed up for the headliners.
From the first chord, the room pulsed with The Courettes infectious, garage-rock vigor. Flávia’s commanding presence, with her wide-brimmed hat and heels-and-handbag swagger, owning the stage. Martin’s exceptional drumming skills were a revelation—tight, ferocious, and relentless, driving the set like a well-oiled machine. Together, they unleashed a sonic onslaught that felt massive, each riff and beat landing with precision and power.
The crowd was hooked from the start, and The Courettes knew exactly how to play them. This was no ordinary gig; it was a spectacle of raw power, charisma, and connection. The Courettes proved that two people can create a sound and atmosphere bigger than most full bands, leaving the Trades Club buzzing under the glow of that full moon. A night to remember, and a band that demands to be seen live.
