Thrice made Tramshed Cardiff their first stop on a six-date UK tour, arriving fresh from a run of European shows through April before heading back to the United States once the UK dates wrap up. Formed in 1998, the band have built a loyal worldwide following within the punk and alternative rock scenes. Among the crowd tonight are longtime fans reminiscing about seeing the band two decades ago, alongside others experiencing their first Thrice show.
Opening the night with a bang are French noise-rock trio Lysistrata. As they step onto the stage, they waste no time launching straight into their set. From the very first note the sound is hard-hitting and high-tempo, immediately setting the pace for what becomes an intense and energetic performance. With the bass heavily emphasized and the drum kit placed front and centre, the band’s raw power fills the room.
Lead singer Ben Amos performs from behind the drums, leaving guitarists Théo Guéneau and Max Roy free to roam the stage, showcasing their technical skill while engaging the crowd. The trio’s chemistry is evident throughout the set, their tight musicianship driving each song forward with relentless energy. They close with “Mourn”, leaving everything on the stage as the audience responds with loud appreciation.
A roar erupts from the crowd as Thrice walk onstage:
Dustin Kensrue – lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Teppei Teranishi – lead guitar
Eddie Breckenridge – bass guitar
Riley Breckenridge – drums
The band begin with a slow, atmospheric intro that gradually builds anticipation throughout the room. Strobe lights flicker to life, pulsing in time as the tension rises before the band erupts into “Blackout”. Instantly, the venue bursts into life.
Not long after comes “The Artist in the Ambulance”, sending the crowd into overdrive. Drinks are raised, fans jump in unison, and the atmosphere becomes electric. The energy barely dips as “Paper Tigers” arrives, its heavy, thumping bassline sparking an immediate mosh pit. All around the room people are fully immersed in the music, shouting lyrics and moving with the rhythm.
Working their way through a powerful 20-song set, the band balance older fan favourites with newer material, demonstrating why they have remained such a force on the live circuit for more than two decades. The main set closes with “The Earth Will Shake”, after which the band briefly leave the stage to chants of “We want more!”
Returning for an encore, they deliver two final songs to an already exhilarated crowd. As fans file out at the end of the night—adrenaline still pumping—it’s clear they couldn’t have asked for more. Thrice deliver a performance that is tight, passionate, and powerful, proving exactly why they are still packing out venues more than twenty years after they first formed.
