Ain’t share new single “Jude” via Fear Of Missing Out Records
To play first headline show at London’s Waiting Room on 12th June
Double a-side 7” single out 13th June
South London outfit Ain’t have shared an introspective new single titled “Jude”. The single comes on the heels of a packed-out UK tour with THUS LOVE, two hotly-tipped showcases at The Alt Escape and Dot To Dot, and their recent single “Pirouette” which arrived earlier this year to widespread acclaim and will feature alongside the new song on a limited edition 7” on Fear Of Missing Out Records – out 13th June.
“Jude” and “Pirouette” land on the back of an incendiary year for the band. Having already played showcases for the likes of So Young, Rough Trade, The Alt Escape, and The Windmill, their first two singles “Oar” and “Teething” arrived last summer and marked out the quintet as that rarest of things - a band with a feverish word-of-mouth reputation, despite having not released a single official track, delivering on all the promise that they had built up. The tracks saw widespread support with the band landing digital cover with Dork and props from the likes of Stereogum, NME, CLASH, DIY, The Line Of Best Fit, and So Young, as well as radio play from BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, Apple Music 1 and more.
Recorded with Theo Verney (English Teacher, Lime Garden, Egyptian Blue), “Jude” sees the band continue to explore the stranger side of 90s guitar music, post-punk, and shoegaze, with deeply textured instrumentation that sees cyclical guitars give way to a satisfyingly explosive chorus, as vocalist Hanna Baker Darch sings hook-led, ruminative lyrics about analysis paralysis and its subsequent effects. The track is accompanied by a new lyric video made up of imagery of the band performing live.
Speaking on the single, Darch says “George [Ellerby] wrote the main riff and named the song Jude, which reminded me of a pub called Jude the Obscure, where I went with a friend from university. He's a brilliant writer and is doing a PhD in philosophy, but he channels his talents into relentless overthinking. Some of the lyrics reflect the bitter pints-deep tone of our conversations, which has been described as the dynamic of a witch-hag and her raccoon accomplice.”
Both “Jude” and “Pirouette” have become live favourites over the band’s recent live dates. Next week fans will have a chance to see the band play everything they’ve released to date alongside new material at their much-anticipated debut London headline show at the Waiting Room in Stoke Newington. The date comes ahead of a Brighton show alongside Northampton indie-punk outfit thistle, and a set at one of Dork’s celebratory 100th issue shows with Lime Garden at The Sebright Arms. Full dates below and more TBA.
Live dates:
12/06 – Waiting Room, London – UK (HEADLINE DATE)
18/06 - Brighton, The Hope & Ruin (supporting thistle)
22/07 - London, Dork 100 @ The Sebright Arms (supporting Lime Garden)
