CRITICAL ACCLAIM FOR THE OVERVIEW
STEVEN WILSON - THE OVERVIEW
AVAILABLE NOW
Fresh from the success of Steven Wilson’s hugely ambitious critically acclaimed eighth album, The Overview which entered the UK album chart at #3 and the German chart at #1, gave him the biggest week one sales for his career, Wilson has announced that four world famous comedians will be joining him at his four night residency at the legendary London Palladium.
12th May - Clinton Baptiste
13th May - Al Murray, The Pub Landlord
19th May - Stewart Lee
20th May - Frank Skinner
Speaking about the unusual pairing of guest performers Wilson says “The Overview tour includes an unprecedented four shows in my hometown - London. Knowing that some people have tickets for more than one of these Palladium shows, I’m going to vary the set list as much as I can. But there will be at least one other unique aspect to each night. I've decided to try something I’ve been thinking about for several years and have stand-up comedians opening proceedings. I’m a huge fan of stand up and I’ve frequently been confronted by my listeners at stand-up shows, usually in a state of shock at discovering I’m not as humourless as my music (!). I decided to approach four of my absolute favourite British stand-up comedians with invitations to open one Palladium show each. And I'm extremely honoured to say they've all accepted. Each one’s very different in style and they’re all free to make me, my music and you the listeners the butt of their comedy. Depending on which night (or nights) you’re attending, you can look forward to short sets from Clinton, Al, Stewart and Frank. They’ll each be on stage at 7.30pm, so please get in early!”
Audacious and as uncompromising as anything in Steven Wilson’s canon The Overview features just two tracks each spanning around twenty minutes of music. The first track on the album, Objects Outlive Us, made music history last week by being the longest track to ever feature in the Spotify New Music Friday playlist, the track runs around 5 times longer than any of the 116 other tracks featured.
The Overview is currently #1 in the UK in the Independent Albums Chart, the Physical Albums Chart, the Vinyl Albums Chart, the CD Albums Chart and the Rock & Metal Albums Chart.
The Overview follows Wilson’s recent releases 2017’s To The Bone (UK #3), 2021’s The Future Bites (UK #4) and 2023’s The Harmony Codex (UK #4) as well as 2022’s Porcupine Tree album CLOSURE / CONTINUATION (UK #2).
The Overview is out now on vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, limited edition mint vinyl and digital formats (the deluxe box set format sold out on announcement).
Steven Wilson plays his first UK tour dates in eight years in May. The tour begins at Birmingham Symphony Hall on 9th May and All Steven Wilson live dates are listed here.
