Manchester Albert Hall – 25 October 2025

I’d never heard a note of The Amazons before Saturday night. I walked in blind—and walked out converted.
As the lights dropped, the gothic arches of the Albert Hall swallowed the roar of the crowd, and The Amazons exploded onto the stage. Lead frontman Matt Thomson looked like a man possessed—like every great rock frontman who ever lived had channelled into one body.
From the first chord, the venue’s Victorian bones rattled. The band—now beefed up with extra percussion and keys for their current tour—sounded massive: a wall of noise that somehow still left space for Thomson to prowl, snarl and surf the crowd, as if he were trying to outrun his own demons. Their new material is bigger, darker and sharper than ever: tracks from their new album crop up with ruthless intensity.
Albert Hall Manchester
The crowd was manic. The energy felt feral and communal—the kind of night where strangers hug, and no one cares who spilled whose pint. The setlist spanned the new wave of songs (including “Joe Bought a Gun”, “(Panic)”, “Pitch Black”) and older favourites, giving the night both depth and familiarity.
By the time the final chord crashed and the house lights flickered on, the Albert Hall felt like it had been through a war—and won. Rock’s not dead. It’s just been waiting for nights like this. And for a first-timer, it was a proper revelation.
